Dog Friendly Pubs and other places
North Wales is synonymous with dogs - it's a rural farming area and every one seems to have a dog or two! This is intended as a guide to some of the best places to take your dogs to be sure of a warm welcome. It's far from complete and I'll be adding to it regularly so please let me know if you visit somewhere that you think I should know about and I'll include it
Although Tafarn Y Fedw translates as Birch (tree) Inn, the pub closed many years ago and was converted ( somewhat ironically) to a chapel. The chapel too is no more and is now a private house y Hen Capel.
Nearly all pubs and tea shops in the area allow dogs in the gardens so I've not included them here
Pubs
The Stag at Llangeryw is one of our favourites - a quaint village pub which is both a place to eat and to drink. Lovely open fire and lots of weird and wonderful artefacts to puzzle over. Booking recommended in high season.
The Eagles hotel in Llanrwst. Dogs allowed in bar where bar meals are served.
The New Inn in Llanrwst. Friendly local pub
The Gwydyr hotel in Betws y Coed - dog loving owners are always a good thing!
The Albion Ale House in Conwy is one for the drinkers - they serve a good selection of real ale but no food. At least no food for humans. Dogs have their own menu and can choose from a selection of delicious sounding meals
The Groes Inn again at Conwy - the first licensed house in Wales dating from 1573
If you are visiting the Pontcysyllte aquaduct near Llangollen then have lunch at the Telford Inn. Dogs welcome everywhere except in the actual restaurant but we eat in the bar!
The Red Lion in old Colwyn - great beer selection
The Queen Victoria Llandudno. Pub food in downstairs bar
The Y Pengwern, Llan Ffestiniog near Blaenau Ffestiniog. Dogs in lounge bar
Beaches
Please be aware that the Conwy area (and Llandudno in particular) has very strict enforcement of the dogs on beaches restrictions. I have a dedicated blog post on beaches here.
The good news is that out of season (April - Oct) dogs are allowed on all beaches other than a small area at Rhos on Sea. In high season, if you are in any doubt please check the council website
Cafes
The Olive Grove Deganwy. All day breakfasts, panini and a great Welsh Rarebit
The Lemon Tree Llandudno
